Red Rooibos Tea

Red Rooibos tea – red and visually appealing!

Red Rooibos teaRoobis is not really a tea. Instead of coming from the Camelia plants that make traditional teas, Red Roobis comes from a plant called Aspalathus linearis. The name Roobis is an Afrikaans word for red bush.

Where it’s grown?

South Africa is the only place that the Roobis plant grows. It has thin leaves that are much like needles, which are green until they are fermented, at which time they change to red. So, obviously this is one of the most popular Tea sold in African countries.

How it’s harvested?

Since these plants produce so little seeds, they are considered rare. They are also hard to harvest, since the seeds come out of the fruits at the time of ripening. It is a delicate plant that grows best when left alone to grow in its natural soil.

The red color: Looks like Wine!

Roobis tea has a unique red color and it has a very sweet taste along with a nutty flavor. Since it provides health benefits and has a great taste, it is now becoming popular throughout the world.

No Caffeine!

Roobis tea is free of caffeine and contains little tannin, so it can be drank throughout the day without fear of unwanted side effects. It can be enjoyed by pregnant women and mothers who are nursing as well. (Please Note: some studies made on Red Rooibis still claim that it has mild caffeine in it.)

Different studies have shown some of the health problems which can be aided by drinking Red Roobis tea:

  • Reduces headaches,   irritability, insomnia and nervous tension
  • Works for hay fever,   eczema and asthma
  • Give an immunity boost
  • Can slow the process of   aging when put directly onto skin

For those that get kidney stones, Roobis tea can be drank safely, since it doesn’t contain oxalic acid. Some of the minerals found in the tea are:

  • Calcium
  • Fluoride
  • Alpha hydroxyl
  • Zinc
  • Manganese
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Potassium

This is a beverage that is delicious and comprised of many different health benefits as well.

How to compare it with Tava Tea?

All green teas, in general, offer some great health benefits.  With its red color it’s very visually pleasing! Red Rooibos is not a slimming tea. However, you can drink it for its safe and health benefits as a special beverage.
